Good Food

2026

A personal project of food exploration and documentation: a living, evolving recipe almanac of the world's home cooking. The core audience is passionate home cooks and foodie travelers who want to document their journey and (re)create dishes at home. Designed, built and shipped solo: 184 recipes curated across 29 countries, with more yet to come.

Good Food My Almanac โ€” a world map with a postage stamp pinned on every country cooked from, above a feed of saved recipes.

My Almanac. Every dish you've cooked or collected, pinned to a living world map above your own recipe feed.

Context

Recipes live as flat documents: broken links, saved Instagram posts, ChatGPT prompts, iPhone photos never seen again, forgotten the moment you close your laptop. But cooking is rich in culture and we practice it every day. An ingredient leads to a dish, a dish to a country, a country to a memory, and back again. I built Good Food as a personal knowledge graph that evolves over time, with room to grow features for foodie travelers to document their culinary journeys.

Good Food home page โ€” the headline 'Cook from somewhere you have never cooked from before', framed by floating postage stamps.

The almanac. A recipe collection you wander rather than search: 184 dishes across 29 countries.

Good Food explore page โ€” five 'ways in' doorways above a grid of country postage stamps.

Ways in. Find a dish by feeling, ingredient, occasion, place, or from your own almanac, all powered by a hand-built knowledge graph.

The bigger idea

Good Food is built as a graph rather than a folder. Modeling the links between dishes, ingredients, places and moods lets the collection be wandered, not just searched: find something by feeling, by what is in the cupboard, by occasion or by place. Postmark captures a dish you ate while traveling and turns it into a recipe you can cook.

Cooking enters a life two ways, cooked at home and tasted on the road, and Good Food holds both; a country lights up once you have done the full loop. The direction is mobile-first, backed by an accessible web app, with pantry matching next on the roadmap: what can I make with what I already have?

Approach

Working as product lead with Claude as engineering partner, I developed and shipped a live React app with its own locked design system, experience features, business positioning and a growth plan. It offers an interactive journey map, a full cook mode, natural-language search over the knowledge graph, accounts with row-level security, and AI dish-detection on a serverless backend.

A Good Food recipe page โ€” Chicken Katsu Curry with a photo, cook-mode controls, ingredients and a step-by-step method.

Cook mode. Scalable servings, step timers and a metric/imperial toggle, built into every recipe.

Outcome

184 recipes across 29 countries, live and in daily use. Wander it by feeling, ingredient or place; cook with scalable servings and step timers; and capture dishes from the road with Postmark.

Good Food Postmark on mobile โ€” 'You ate it there. Now bring it home.', a photo capture for dishes from the road.

In your pocket. Your almanac as a journey on mobile, and Postmark to photograph a dish on the road and turn it into a recipe you can cook.
